The Curtis Symphony Orchestra is comprised of more than 100 exceptionally gifted young musicians between the ages of 13 and 25. It is recognized as one of the world’s finest conservatory orchestras and has been called “an orchestra that any city would be lucky to have as its professional ensemble” (The Philadelphia Inquirer).

Mark Russell Smith
Mark Russell Smith graduated in cello performance from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Claus Adam, and in conducting from The Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Max Rudolf and Otto-Werner Mueller. While at Curtis, Mr. Smith was first-prize winner in the National Repertory Orchestra Conductors Competition, and upon graduation he was named assistant conductor of the Opera Company of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Singers.
Aaron Rosand
Called “one of the great living exponents of Romantic violin music” by the New York Times, Aaron Rosand carries on the tradition of Leopold Auer and Eugène Ysaÿe, having studied with their disciples Leon Sametini at the Chicago Musical College and Efrem Zimbalist at The Curtis Institute of Music.
Mr. Rosand has recorded extensively throughout his career and, to date, has over thirty CDs and DVDs on various recording labels in the United States and Europe. Most recently, Musical Concepts released a two-CD set featuring Mr. Rosand and pianist and fellow Curtis faculty member Hugh Sung performing works by Brahms.
